The basics
What is Sous?
Sous is an AI meal planner for busy households. It learns who you're feeding and what they like, works around your calendar, and texts you a weekly meal plan and a grocery list sorted by aisle. You change anything by replying in plain English, or on the web dashboard at textsous.com.
Sous is made by SOUS AI LLC.
Do I need to download an app?
No. Sous works by text message, and everything else (the full plan, the grocery list, recipes and your preferences) is on the web dashboard at textsous.com. There's nothing to install.
Who is Sous for?
Households that cook at home most nights and find the planning harder than the cooking: busy parents, couples juggling two schedules, anyone tired of deciding what's for dinner at 5pm. If you'd rather have ingredients delivered already portioned, a meal kit is a better fit — see how they compare.
Does Sous deliver groceries or meal kits?
No. Sous plans the meals and writes the grocery list; you shop wherever you like, or hand the list to whoever is doing the run. Sous doesn't sell food or deliver anything.
Planning and groceries
How does Sous plan the week?
On the planning day you choose, Sous texts you your week as it sees it from your calendar and asks what it missed. Once you say it looks good, it builds the plan around your real week: quick meals on packed nights, something more ambitious when there's room, usually anchored on one make-ahead component you cook once and use a few ways. The menu and the grocery list follow, and a short check-in on Wednesday evening keeps the week on track. See the whole weekly rhythm.
Can Sous plan breakfast and lunch too?
Yes. When you set up, you tell Sous which meals to plan (just dinners, or breakfast and lunch too), and you can change that later just by telling Sous.
Can Sous handle allergies and dietary restrictions?
Yes. Tell Sous about allergies, intolerances and diets (vegetarian, gluten-free and so on) when you set up or any time after, and it plans around them for everyone you've told it about. Sous isn't a substitute for medical or dietary advice, so keep checking labels for serious allergies.
What does the grocery list look like?
One list for the week, sorted by aisle, with the things Sous thinks you already have marked as probably in your pantry. Check items off on your phone as you shop, add anything that isn't on the menu, or copy and share the list. Ask Sous and it texts you the whole list.
Can I change meals I don't like?
Any time. Text something like “swap Thursday for tacos” or “drop Friday, we're out” and Sous changes just that and updates the grocery list. On the dashboard you can replace a meal, move it to another day, or undo the last change.
Does Sous give me recipes?
Yes, for the meals it plans. Ask “what's the recipe for tonight?” and Sous texts you that meal's recipe card: what to prep first, the steps in order, and the amounts for your household. If a meal doesn't have a card, Sous says so and talks you through it instead. There's no recipe library to browse; recipes show up when you're about to cook.
How does Sous learn what my family likes?
From what you tell it. Rate meals (Loved it or Skip next time), leave notes like “kids wanted more sauce”, answer the mid-week check-in, or just text “that salmon was a hit.” Sous remembers and folds it into future weeks. It asks a few extra questions in the first week or two, then gets out of your way.
Texts, calendars and households
Do I have to connect my calendar?
No, it's optional. If you connect one, Sous reads it to spot busy nights: read-only, and only the calendars you pick. You can connect Google Calendar, Outlook or any calendar link. Without a calendar, Sous simply asks about your week over text.
Which phone numbers can Sous text?
US and Canadian mobile numbers. Every text from Sous comes from the same number, so you can save it as a contact when you sign up.
Can I use Sous without text messages?
Yes. Choose Quiet mode when you set up, or later on the Your kitchen page, and Sous never texts you. It still plans your week from your calendar, puts it on your dashboard with the grocery list, and emails you when it's ready.
How do I stop the texts?
Reply STOP to any message to opt out of texts entirely, and START to opt back in. To keep Sous without the texts, say “stop texting me” and Sous switches you to Quiet mode instead.
Can my partner use Sous too?
Yes. Invite them from the Your kitchen page. You share one weekly plan and grocery list, each with your own login, texts and calendars, and either of you can confirm the week. One subscription covers the household. Two adults per kitchen is the limit for now.
